Job Description

Terack Inc., an internet hosting provider, is seeking a system administrator to oversee and manage their portland colocation. Applicants should have experience with RHEL, Apache, OpenBSD and related applications.

Responsibilities:

The Server Administrator’s role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the servers as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. Where applicable, the Server Administrator will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server farm.

Skills:

(1) Linux server administrator (Apache, PHP, MySQL experience essential); (2) Windows server administration (experience desirable); (3) Scripting and automation Fault finding and troubleshooting; (4) Design and implementation of custom solutions for dedicated server and VDS customers; (5) Performance optimization; (6) Network management (VLANs, routing, firewalling, design, procurement and implementation); (7) Training junior sysadmin staff Installation of new hardware Occasional on-call work.

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years Linux System administration and engineering experience
  • DNS fundamentals, BIND Network fundamentals, including diagnostics with Unix tools
  • RedHat Linux ES 3, 4, and 5 Working knowledge of complex web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers, web and database servers
  • Well versed in Apache web server, PHP, MySQL VMWare – ability to deploy, support, and diagnose real issues for a production environment
  • Experience with JBoss a plus NIS, NFS, BIND, Sendmail SNMP, TFTP, Iptables, Quagga, Syslog, Snort, Splunk Proficiency with fiber channel switches and SANs

 Additional Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Cisco CatOS and IOS Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical/problem solving ability
  • Time management and organizational skills Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly
